Pi Crate
Lesson Intentions: This kit will guide your child/student in understanding and applying the following concepts: nomenclature of the circle and its parts including: sectors, arcs, circumference, chords, radius, diameter, pi, and semi-circle; understanding and applying the pi equation using a hands-on approach; and understanding and applying equations to figure out the surface area of a circle and the sectors of a circle. This lesson kit is great for grades 3rd through 7th. For younger grades, you can start with the first few activities and then save the future activities for future years. Happy Pi Day (March 14th)!
K through 8th: You will bake a pi and work through the following lessons:
Older grades 3rdthrough 8th: You will continue to work through the following lessons. Younger students should wait for future years. Advanced younger students can observe a teacher/parent doing the lesson at the teacher/parent’s discretion.

Kit Includes: Illustrated lesson plan with seven different activities, an 8 x 12 in. cork board, 3 geometry sticks, eight different sized circles, 20 sheets of 7 x 11 in. white paper, 14 sheets of colored cardstock paper (1 yellow, 1 dark blue, 1 pink, 1 red, 2 purple, 2 light blue, 3 orange, and 3 green), a ruler, a small tin container with 5 push pins, a paper with a straight line to use for lesson three, string, a journal, color pencils, wood burned pieces (C, A, d, r, x, =, and 𝝅), 4 red laminated exponents (2), a laminated 3.14 label, and plain labels to use to write down measurements.
