Birds and Aves Kit
Lesson Intentions: This kit will provide your child/student hands-on activities to learn about and understand the parts of a bird, using an oriole as an example. Your child/student will learn about the sequence of a bird’s life from egg to full-grown, using the Blue Hen chicken as an example. This kit will help build your child’s/student’s vocabulary awareness and visual discrimination skills.
Kit Includes: An illustrated lesson plan with three different activities (12 pages including worksheets); “Chicks & Chickens,” by Gail Gibbons, storybook; laminated four-part bird matching cards; laminated chicken sequence matching cards (eggs, new hatchling, 1-week old chick, 2-week old chick, 3-week old chick, 1-month-old chick, 2-month-old pullet, and full-grown chicken); laminated Oriole bird picture; laminated Blue hen chicken picture, 2 copies of “parts of a bird” worksheets (1 color and 1 black and white to color, you are allowed to make extra copies of these); 3 “parts of a bird” mini color sheets (for your child/student to make their own “parts of” booklets); Oriole bird color page; Blue hen chicken color page, an animal report template; a pencil sharpener; a 4 by 4 bird sketching journal; and color pencils. Optional purchase: sequence objects (egg nest, new hatchling, young chick, and full-grown chicken). When available, your kit will include a chicken feather.
